I am more and more inclining to finish my horn in the textured paint of the color of my room. However, lately I have another “idee fixe”. My listening room has a very pleasant light pattern, something that was here before and something that I added. ...

Herman, I am glad that you feel better about sound from your midbass horns. I do not know what damage digital amps incur but even your experience of hating the sound of those horns to falling in love with them just after changing the amp do suggests ...

Hi romy, mine are the 515-G drivers. I will be x-ing over at 600hz to Vitavox S2's (2nd order, yipes!). The S2s are in 320hz LeCleach horns. I was kind of hoping for just a general reply like when you guys look at a pictu...

Paul,I have not heard the synergy horn or any speaker with that design. Here is what I am talking about:http://www.yorkville.com/images/products/u15_cut_sm.jpgIn this particular case there are 3 mids and 1 tweeter driver sharing the same horn. This so...

I met today with guy who is local woodworker and who looks like a right person to render my Midbass horn. He proposed something that I did not consider. He felt that the horn like mine might to be sliced by 2 inches increment, cut on 3-dimensional CN...

Hello Romy,The tapped horns were easy to construct so I made them while I was working on the midbass channel. I can't really comment on how good tapped horns are because I have never heard other 20-35hz capable systems... it does provide amazing SPL'...

It sucks – whoever builds horns too damn far! I need to see my congressmen to lobby lowering taxes for horn users of something like this….
Anyhow, the “erenechaos” comments about the “soft bass" is a good sign, though of course to equalize the...

I had quite a number emails from different people who picked 515G or AK15X drivers and would like to build a midbass horn from 60-80Hz to ~500Hz. I played a lot with different 515 (B, E, D, A) and with different AK15X but I never went for the right h...

This connection is the only connection that my horn will have. From one side it will be back chamber with hard-attached first section. The first section is very critical as it has a transition from 7” round throe to trapezoid of the rest of the horn....
the only real questionable aspect here is adding a second set of back firing, inverted phase horns. mathematically speaking it is what the design "needs" but of course the real question is - what does it sound like ? that's...

Lets look at it...http://home.planet.nl/~ulfman/"The
carlson is a broad band resonator" - hrm... It does ocour as
elegent solution on first looks but do you wnat a broard band
resonator coupled to the end of your midbass horn? This aside it doe...

I have no idea what it is but it is something… Take a look:
http://cybwiz.blogspot.com/2011/09/aries-cerat-contendo-reference.html
It is 3 way horn loaded with external LF section, so far so good. Atop then have RAAL ribbon that ...

One of the challenges I see for my midbass horns is to minimize hf output. The goal is to operate the horn in a bandwidth where it can cross to the higher horns, and have each horn function in their best sounding manner. My drivers are Altec 515-16...

Just to answer a couple of question and post some more...
The Mouth changing sectors in the horn, according to the preliminary data posted here, would be as follow:
For the 40 hz horn: 4¨ Throat to 6¨ = 53 cm

The idea of conversion of “midbass hanging thing" into upright flower horn is brilliant in my view. To curve the leg of the horn to offset the sender of mass and the horn might be opening up as nuclear bop mushroom. I wonder how good it will with 500...

This is probably the reason I can listen to EV Patrician IV in relatively small space and close to the speaker without much of fatigue. The other factor must be that it's 4- way design with narrow band-pass for each horn. EV T25 2" phenolic com...

Maybe the upper midrange horn became like a paper cone speaker. Best sound I ever made, and it looks like this. It had the same ring to it as the magical SABA fullrange speakers - made of paper. But below 500Hz, I must use solid wood. The Fanes are t...
Just realised that I had dual highpass filters on the TH, which more or less cut off frequencies below 50Hz entirely. A lot better now, still much to be made of course.
This is very normal. People get the “building...

Active sound cancellation has been used widely in industry as ANC (Active Noise Control)They work best and functional in narrow band bass FRQ. To make it short it is not practical in your case... Bass FRQ have enough power to vibrate horn mouth and c...
The acoustic transformation's probably done by the time the wave reaches the throat.
Yes, it is. If we loom how the S2 internal channel done then it would clearly indicate the it should not be a great tweeter but wha...

A visitor of my site sent me email with following:
“I take it you don't like the Rogero style (or Johan Dreyer) bass horns with wings, but you could add compression to a similar setup and make it work properly. I have made several design...

hi romy!i opened the s2 some nights ago, to me it looked different, but i will check it again, maybe some reflections really fooled me. i searched your s2-guide very carefully, the one in your pic i would without doubt identify as a clear suspension....
so, my straight horns... I like them very much.. I built mine similar in style to what Greg B linked, but obviously much smaller.. mine are just under eight feet long (length of a sheet of plywood) and have a mouth roug...
Actually I see the biggest benefit (besides the huge sound body) in the fact that such a configuration allows very precise adjustment of the way how the harmonics of each UB channels touch the midrange, by simply dealing with...

This is left channel. Right channel is mirror image.I am using 6db active crossovers all around. The subs are pair of 18" Aurasound 1808 per side. The current midbass is the white color horn you see. It is Funktion One DS15. The issue with this one i...
Assuming you go ahead with the mid-bass horn project: If you decide to run the woofer towers along with the mid-bass horns, it is logical to assume they'll produce much of the range produced by these new horns. [/quot...

I know that I am bit koo-koo but it is what it is. The point is that for the last few days my life is fully spinning around my midbass horn project. I have a believe that a fate of man (in country to woman) is to conceive veracity and to harvest a m...

I was thinking about a space-economical way to arm playback with midbass 50Hz horn. It is not that I am into it myself but conceptually I was wondering how to put all of necessarily things within a minimum compromise in minimum footprint. I came up w...
